In the 1930's, legendary surfers John Kelly and Fran Heath took an axe to their laminate plank surfboards and re-shaped their boards. The outcome was the Hot Curl, a revolutionary new template with a narrow V-tail. While a V-tail wasn't necessarily that new to plank boards of the time, the narrow V-tail made Hot Curls able to draw higher and tighter lines in large waves. The template for Hot Curls was later used in the development of big wave guns. Darby is currently experimenting with solid wood surboards to include Hot Curls and Alaia's. Hot Curl shaped by Darby This is a laminated pine version of a Hot Curl shaped by Darby in 2009, 7'10" x 23" x 3". Hot Curl Deck Hot Curl bottom Hot Curl Rail Hot Curl tail V |
